The Power of A Smile

Never underestimate the power of positivity. Do whatever you can to make people smile and feel good about themselves. That’s my philosophy, and I believe that if we all adopt it, the world will be a much better and brighter place.

A friend sent me this video a few months ago. It does a great job of making you feel all warm and squishy on the inside. I hope it makes you smile as much as it makes me smile. Enjoy!

    Jay,
I’ve watched this “Validation” video before, but it’s been a while. I just watched it again, and was reminded of why I love it so much. The power of our words and caring can make such a difference in this world. And for such a small price, what a gift we can give to others! A little bit of our time and caring, and we can change someone’s day!

Jay, you are spreading this every day, and it’s so great to witness that! Keep on being a light in this world!

  18. suzen says:

MAGNIFICENT! Bravo, Jay! I LOVE it! I also feel warm, fuzzy and Validated!

I used to drive my kids crazy when we shopped. I talked to every clerk, knew everyone in the large grocery store, always said something cheerful to everyone. They would get embarrassed and impatient with me – “Come on, mom, must you talk so much?” I tried to explain to them that perhaps my smile and verbal greeting was the only “happy” customer they would have all day. And ya know what? It could be very true.

Now as adults, my kids are much the same way. They know everyone in the stores, gas stations, etc. If that is all they ever learned from me, I am thrilled!

This video is SO important – this behavior, a smile and kind word, could change the world! I really believe that! So thank you, thank you, thank you!
    Hugs – MANY!

@Suzen – You know what? MY mom does that same thing! Used to drive me crazy, Everywhere we went, she always had to make conversation with complete strangers. She still does it. I don’t mind so much anymore now, though. As an adult, I can appreciate more how she makes the world a better place by doing it. And while I’m not as outgoing as she is, I still love making people feel special whenever I can. I’m so glad that there’s people like her (and you) in this world to make it a better place.

@Barbara – Thanks, Barbara. I love your attitude, too, and especially how you devote so much time to helping new bloggers (like me). I’ll keep smiling if you will!

@Lisis – Nah, skip straight to the photographer bit. You’d be so wonderful at getting people to smile those big, natural smiles. Or you could follow plan A, and run for office. You could make a lot of people smile that way, too. I know that I’d be smiling if you were president!

  22. I don’t know that I’d want to be POTUS… those guys can’t even say “Jackass” without starting a major shit storm (I’m using this comment to make sure I’ll never be elected prez). Besides, I was definitely NOT born on US soil… I was “made” in Honduras, and I’m about as flawed as they come.

But I do like the idea of running for some kind of office in Vermont… their homeschool laws need some major adjustments, AND they have universal health care (maybe I could learn how to apply it to everyone?). Either way, “Service With a Smile” will be my policy!

  23. Jay says:

@Lisis – My dad once said the the problem with being POTUS is that anyone smart enough to do a good job is too smart to want the job. It sounds like you fit that sentiment exactly. You’re too smart to want the job. Whatever you decide to do in Vermont, up to and including running for office, I know they’re lucky to have you.

  24. Caroline says:

Love that video! I have seen it before and I agree…a little validation is a good thing. And so are smiles. The power of a smile is amazing. I tend to be a “smiler” sometimes I think I smile too much…lol. I always wonder when I smile at someone and it not returned…is life really that bad???

  25. Man I’m behind — sorry it took me so long to get here! I loved that video, and laughed aloud when the validation guy complimented the guy trying to bust him (toward the beginning). “That suit looks great on you!” The reaction on his face was priceless.

It’s amazing to me how powerful a genuine smile can be, and I love it when I hit someone with one unexpectedly. Seeing them genuinely smile back makes my spirit fly!

    Here’s smiling at you, Jay!

  27. Robin Easton says:

What a lovely post and I could just feel a part of you in (in the writing) that I relate to so strongly. And that is to simply move through life being kind, reaching out and helping others feel happy, more kind, more loved, more eased. It not only makes other happier but it makes me feel so wonderful. So I guess in essence I do it as much for myself as others.

And yes, I saw this video some time ago and watched it twice. I LOVE it. I may go watch it again it is SO cool.

    Thank you Jay.

I’m also glad you liked my comment on Zeenat’s post! :)
