Whether it starts with a bump in the hallway with toast in the mouth or a trip with an accidental grab of the breast, cupid’s bow and arrow is on a shooting spree across romance series. Here is a sample of the types of romantic anime relationships.
The 2015 anime Momokuri follows the usual high school boyfriend and girlfriend dyad. However, it stands out from the pack through its depiction of Yuki Kurihara’s crush on Shinya Momotsuki who happens to be younger. Their romantic relationship is established rather early in the series compared to others in the genre. Although, this does not dissuade her from her comical obsession with stalking him.
Love is arranged into a triangle in 2012’s romance anime Kokoro Connect. When Taichi Yaegashi and Iori Nagase are encouraged to start dating by their friend, Himeko Inaba, it seems all is well. Through a series of unfortunately stressful events, distance occurs in their relationship while Himeko struggles to come to terms with her feelings for Taichi.
2010’s The World God Only Knows (Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai) puts a slight twist on a harem anime. The reclusive Keima Katsuragi is faced with the challenge of banishing evil spirits taking residence in young girls. He approaches this the only way he knows how to, by tackling it as a dating simulation game.
Love can be said to come in all shapes and sizes. It is evident how true this rings within the romance genre of anime. All are very good Netflix anime worth watching.
