Richard Mishaan is one of New York’s top architectural/interior designers, being on the Elle décor A list and the AD 100 as well. Kip’s Bay Boys & Girls Club Decorator Show House needed a salon/library done for their 2017 show, and Mishaan delivered a feast for the eyes. Using animal prints in silk velvet, Fortuny fabrics, Richard created a dramatic layered look allowing the artwork upon the walls to really pop. It is a room with a touch of modern and past history without feeling old and outdated.
Richard Mishaan received a BA from New York University and attended the Columbia University of Architecture before beginning to work for Phillip Johnson. He is the author of two books, ‘Modern Luxury’ and ‘Artfully Modern’ published by Monacelli Press. He eventually went on to form his own company, Richard Mishaan Design and has become the designer to go to for a fresh take on making a room truly unique. His love of bright colors came from the place he was born, Cartagena, Columbia, as Columbia is a colorful area, much more so than in other places.
Richard Mishaan Design has been involved in such projects as hotels, like the presidential suite at the St. Regis Hotel in NYC, the Shelborne Hotel in South Beach, The Marriot AC also on South Beach and the Hotel Tcherassi in Cartagena, Columbia. He is also in the process of working on a new hotel that he is a founder of Homer Design. In addition to hotels, Richard Mishaan does homes as well, whether they are small or large.
Richard purchased a 16th Century Residence in Cartagena and was careful to keep preservation codes when designing his house as it is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Keeping that in mind, Richard was still able to pull off a design that is breathtaking and beautiful. The house has a lot of natural light coming in, and the design takes nothing away from it, but literally invites the light in. While the house in mostly in white shades, there are pops of striking colors in the fabrics, artwork, and more that decorate the walls and furniture. Richard Mishaan is an amazing designer with a great talent for bringing in the right amount of color to a room that makes a dramatic statement.
